PERLAVETTA

Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT Toscana)

100% Cabernet Franc

This single-variety Cabernet Franc offers a fine expression of complexity, while retaining the variety’s natural elegance and a perfumed character shaped by the exceptional terroir of Tenuta Casucci. Perlavetta is a true expression of our philosophy - harnessing the unique qualities of the estate's location with the team's exacting standards.

Thus, the name given to this exceptional wine reflects both the altitude of Tenuta Casucci and the bold aspirations of its winemakers. Perlavetta is drawn from the Italian phrase 'per la vetta', meaning 'to the summit’, evoked on the label by the soaring swallows that visit our estate in Spring. By a stroke of happy coincidence, Tenuta Casucci straddles the 'Strada Per La Vetta', the road that leads to the summit of the Monte Pratomagno.

Perlavetta captures the classic qualities of the varietal, featuring distinct herbal notes and small dark fruits. This Cabernet Franc of rare finesse thrives on the exceptional terroir of Tenuta Casucci. Its remarkable aromatic nuances, together with a complexity that unfolds over time, deliver a distinctive and memorable sensory experience.

Ageing is carried out in French oak barriques for 18 months. Before release, Perlavetta is aged for at least 6 months in the bottle.

The 2022 season was marked across the entire region by a prolonged period of intense heat during the early stages of ripening. The altitude and exposure of Tenuta Casucci’s vineyards provided valuable protection against excessive heat and vine stress. These challenging conditions led to unusually early physiological development, while the resilience of the vineyards, combined with some welcome rainfall later in the summer, ensured excellent grape health. The 2022 harvest was among the earliest of recent years. Harvesting was carried out by hand, with careful selection, and the fermentation vats were filled during the coolest hours of the day.

A challenging vintage that demanded significant agronomic commitment. A cool, wet spring ensured excellent soil water reserves, while bringing considerable disease pressure. The small scale of the vineyards, together with their elevated, well-ventilated position and meticulous vineyard management, allowed for precise control of vegetative growth. A warm, sunny summer supported steady and complete ripening, resulting in healthy, well-balanced grapes at harvest. The harvest took place on 13 September.

A mild winter and rainy spring encouraged an early start to the growing season and ensured excellent soil water reserves. The warm summer, moderated by altitude and the breezes of the Pratomagno, supported balanced ripening. From September onwards, the alternation of sunny days and cool nights enhanced aromatic
intensity, phenolic maturity and the balance between freshness and structure. The slightly later harvest produced wines of notable balance and remarkable drinkability, with a clear expression of place.
